President Mahoney called the meeting to order and introductions were completed.
President's Message:
Patty distributed thank you notes received from WSMA, Jim Firchow, and Kathy Thorson. She also thanked parents for supporting KUSD fine arts at the recent Board of Education meeting.
Approval ofMinutes:
Meeting minutes from 3/22/05 were reviewed. A correction was made to read as follows: "Annual recognition awards will be given to band staff, fine arts secretaries, and the Coordinator of Fine Arts as outlined and amended in the attached chart. A motionwas approved to accept the minutes with corrections.
School Reports:
Elementary Bands: Individual school concerts are on-going. Rehearsals are being held for the concert on May 3rd. The students are playing "real band music. A student teacher will conduct 2 pieces. 200 out of 350 or so elementary students are participating in the after school rehearsals.
KL (Kenosha-Elementary): Most of the plans are finalized for this summer. The band will rehearse at Reuther 9:30 to 11:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. A Rec Plex trip is planned for the students at the end of summer. Patty noted that parents have been asking about car-pooling.
Lance: Trip to Toronto coming up. Mr. Taylor had blue shirts made up by Promo 540 with a Canadian Flag.
Lincoln: Michelle sent an email. Spring concert, Breakfast with Bands, and Sandusky, Ohio trip coming up. Ohio trip is May 19-22.
Tremper: Ralph Houghton benefit concert coming up on May 13th Proceeds toward the Ralph Houghton Library at the new WSMA headquarters. Tremper jazz bands and an alumni band will play. Need adults to usher. Special reception tickets available for $35.00 include reserved seats plus reception at Mangia. Tickets available at the Fine Arts office.
Bradford: New Orleans trip this week. Mr. Sabo's retirement discussed. Concern that the Boosters did not recognize Mr. Firchow. Boosters still felt we should proceed with a retirement gift policy from this date forward. Continued below...

A motion carried for Boosters to recognize band directors at retirement with a plaque at their final district concert.
Continental: Parent meeting May 9th. 35 students signed up so far. June 13 - 15 is band camp. Rehearsals Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Mahone.
Mahone: Kristie sent an email. Students participated in a trip to Northwestern University including clinics with Dan Belongia and a concert by the North Shore Concert band. Mahone received all ls at large group contest. A recital concert and full band concerts upcoming.
Rambler: Matt Garza of CYO band will direct along with Kristie Weyrauch. He has a conflict so the band camp will be held locally. This will be less expensive than overnight camp. They will rehearse 2 Saturdays in May and 2 long days in June.
McKinley: Received 1s at large group contest. June 4th the band will take a day trip. Spring concert May 17th. Jazz will play at Breakfast with the Bands. They thanked the boosters for new chimes purchased.
Black Watch: 107 students registered. First rehearsal April 25. Lou Covelli contacted Snap-on and they will not store the equipment truck. He will check with the Kenosha Achievement Center. Sue Mack will check with LPL
District: KUSD budget issues were discussed. If state funds are not received, fine arts will lose 1.5 FTEs. Dr. Yontz suggested that parents contact state legislators regarding the funding of public education. Holly Stanfield will move to theater and .33 choir will come from her position. Mr. Sabo, Mr. Schripsema and Mr. Smith's positions will be filled. Hiring will be done by committee which includes the building principals and Dr. Yontz; the best match for the job is selected.
Financial Report:
Highlights included:
Money from checking not moved to money market because we get credit in the form of fee reduction based upon the balance in the checking.
Boosters will check with other financial institutions regarding no-fee accounts. John suggested Educators Credit Union. $566.70 profit was netted from concession at Large group contest. Lance families donated much of the food so no costs were incurred.

Membership:
No update. Janet Schoettler hospitalized.
Clothing Sale:
Sue Mack will display a selection of t-shirts in various styles at Breakfast with the Bands. Pre-orders will be taken. They were also displayed at Large group contest.
Judy at Promo 540 made up colored order blank sheets.
Order sheets will be distributed to directors of bands.
Large Group Contest:
A thank you to Lance parents for donation of food items which allowed the Boosters to profit $566.70 at Large group concession. A thank you to Whittier for the lending of the popcorn machine.
All of the Booster organizations (band, choir, orchestra) will meet with Dr. Yontz to coordinate between the organizations.
Breakfastwiththe Bands:
Raffle "chance baskets will be displayed at Breakfast. Patty will check to see if a permit is required to sell chance tickets.
T-shirt sale will be set up.
Pacetti's will set up their shop.
No bake sale this year.
Boosters will rent the pancake grill from Ed Portzen.
Boosters may look in to the future purchase of a grill with other booster organizations.
Boosters continues to look for companies to make donations toward events. Patty is getting volunteers via the newsletter.
Newsletter:
John Krerowicz completed the spring newsletter quickly and beautifully and it was submitted to district electronically.
John will check on website space options. He noted that 100 megabytes can be purchased for $25.00 per year through easy.com with no advertising and 10 email accounts.
A motion carried for John Krerowicz to pursue web space for the Kenosha Band Boosters at any fee under $100.00 per year.
Reuther Storage Room
No report or update.
RamblerUniforms:
The sashes have not been repaired. Patty will inform Kristie Weyrauch.
Insurance:
Better rates have been found for 500/1000/1,000,000 and Boosters will change insurance companies.
The Black Watch truck driver(s) must provide their drivers license number to the insurance company. The boosters need a potential driver list from the director, the drivers license numbers and then the band must use only those pre-approved drivers.
SummerBand Support:
Patty wrote to the directors to solicit input regarding a reception for the new head chaperones and uniform chairpersons. She did not get much response or interest from directors for help from the Boosters to the new volunteers.
5th Grade Reception:
Sandy Ogren and Sue Fresheim, Roosevelt parents, will coordinate the 5th grade band reception. They will pursue juice from Ocean Spray.
Letters have been sent to Target, Super Valu and Pick 'n Save.
Olivers has agreed to donate 10 dozen cookies. An estimate of 800 people will attend. It was recommended that someone check with Paielli’s. We have cups and napkins. Sue will check with
a Keebler salesperson.
K-LBand:
A request was made for the Boosters to sponsor pizza for a swimming and pizza party after a rehearsal at Reuther.
Kathy will check to see whether this is even possible since they have a limit of 50 kids in the pool. Lifeguards would be hired.
Boosters informed Kathy that she can go ahead with this plan since KL may use their budgeted money any way they wish.
The remainder of the agenda was tabled.
Dr. Yontz will check to see if future meetings can be held in Room 190B at the ESC.
