Meeting Minutes for May 22, 2007

Attended by: Patty Mahoney, Jay Labedz, John Whyte, Carla Ebert, Janet Schoettler

President Patty Mahoney called the meeting to order.

Approval of Minutes:
The approval of the April meeting minutes was deferred due to the small number of persons in attendance.

Financial Report:
Patty distributed a record of checks and deposits. A complete financial report was not available this month. She noted that Black Watch has made some deposits that are not recorded. They need to send email to Patty to keep her up to date. Patty will inform them. More trailer advertising has been sold since the last meeting. Breakfast with the Bands netted somewhere between $2,300.00 and $2,500.00. The raffle brought in about $455.00. Patty called the insurance company regarding the new trailer and insurance.
The following annual insurance figures were noted:
        1984 trailer, $73.45 - comprehensive and collision
        2007 trailer, $120.33 - comprehensive and collision
        1991 GMC truck, $138.94 - comprehensive
                "    , $212.60 - collision
                "    , $482.00 to $540.00 - liability
The liability cost is $482 to purchase $500,000.00 or $540.00 to purchase $1,000,000.00.
A motion carried to increase the liability insurance to $1,000,000.00.

District:
Patty met with Dr. Yontz. He recommended that the Booster presidents get together and make a decision about the future of the fruit sale. The Festival of Arts and Flowers and the Ice Cream Social will go on as planned following Dr. Yontz  tenure with the district. A decision will need to be made regarding how to run the summer band financial system for the summer of 2008.
On a side note, Patty commented that she spoke with Marcia of Pacetti's music regarding the trailer advertising. Patty explained that an ad was donated for Pacetti's. She also discussed all of the services that Pacetti's donates to the district and the possibility that the store receive written documentation from KUSD for tax donation purposes.

School reports:
Beginners: Mr. Whyte thanked the Boosters for the 5th grade concert reception. The concert went well. Extra chairs were needed. Mini-concerts are being held at year-end in the individual elementary schools. John will substitute for KL band this summer. The 3 KL directors include: Mike Monk, Kathy Ripley and Brian Ford. KL will rehearse at Reuther auditorium.
Bradford: The spring concert was held as well as a great Jazz concert. Awards were given to Nick Taylor, Kelsey Swaitko, and Tim Bolyard.
Tremper: The spring concerts were held. Awards were given to Jared Frost, Gloria Goray, Brian Schoettler, Dustin Laurenzi, Ryan Deeter, and Dan Pratt.
        Lance: Spring concert held.

Side note from John Whyte: The Kenosha Pops band will hold an indoor concert on July 25th at Carthage's Siebert Chapel. They will be performing "Winged Victory" by Brian Balmages.

Old Business:
AT & T Score program: the informational flyers were set out at the 5th grade reception.
Fruit Sale: the Booster presidents will meet.
Kenosha Beats: closed their season at Breakfast with the Bands.
Website: has been updated with summer band info and summer band forms.
Coalition to Save Music: Patty submitted the names of all students receiving a "1*" on a class A solo to the Kenosha News. This information has not yet been printed.
        AHA: no report
Eagle Scout project: no word on the hat boxes by Dominic James. Andrew Donald's racks are being used and appreciated.
Solo and Ensemble: State contest completed and went well.
5th Grade reception: went well. Booster and Score program literature was set out and not a lot was picked up. This same info handed out at Solo and Ensemble and Breakfast with the Bands.
Breakfast with the Bands:  There were too many volunteers first thing in the morning and they came too early due to the start time being scheduled later than previous years. Pacetti's music had a nice new set up near the door. Raffle was successful. There was a great group of parents volunteering as the clean up crew.
        Summer Bands:
KL: starts June 19 with registration and rehearsal.
Continental: 50 or so kids signed up. Colorguard ordered 12 new flags at $500.00. Lead positions are filled.
Rambler: No number of students available. Spring rehearsals have started. Some kids unable to attend due to other commitments. Lead positions filled.
Black Watch: 162 or so students at last count. Lead positions filled.
        Ice Cream Social:
Cathy Eggert will take care of the baskets. Need chairpeople for the pie tent and food areas. Check with Black Watch parents for volunteers. Patty spoke with Mike Mack of Deans.
        Festival of Arts and Flowers:
Patty will check with Mr. Hans Friesheim regarding a corn roast. A coordinator is needed for this event. Patty will send out information for volunteers including chair people. Carla will email the past volunteer slots needed. Carla noted that parents like to know the kids' playing schedule before they decide their volunteer times.
        Officers:
Keenan Dreger will be president beginning in Fall 2007. Patty Mahoney will be past president. Jay Labedz will continue as recording secretary. Carla will continue as volunteer coordinator and work out the training and transition to Shelly Flasch. They may co-coordinate for a while. Patty will check with John Krerowicz regarding continuing with the website position.
Patty commented about reorganizing the group due to limited volunteers and people willing to attend meetings. Some brainstorming was done to determine some names of parents to contact regarding involvement. Names included: Julia Yeary, Diana Trammel-Long, Monica Gombar, Dale Lovejoy and Judy Busch.
        Fundraising:
Keenan continues to work on the John McGivern fundraiser scheduled for September 29th.
Mr. Sturino called Patty regarding the hot tub donation and the $2,500.00 ad on the trailer. He noted that if the Boosters wrote a letter it may be possible to get a hot tub at a discounted price and then raffle it off. The general consensus was not to risk buying a hot tub for raffle.
        Budget:
Rambler colorguard is looking at new uniforms. No other requests at this time.
        By-laws:
Rewriting of the By-laws needed. We hope to start with an outline at the June 2007 meeting and complete the rewriting at officers meeting(s) in July and or August. Again, a decision needs to be made regarding how to do the summer band banking.

The meeting adjourned.
