Attended by: Patty Mahoney, Sue Mack, Jay Labedz, Lisa Becker,
Tim Yontz, Joanie May, Bob McMahon, Janet Schoettler

President Mahoney called the meeting to order. No introductions were
necessary.

President's Message:
Boosters received a thank you from the Kenosha Public Library. Two copies of "Growing Your Musician  have been purchased by the Boosters. Those books are now on the shelves with book plates to recognize the donation. The library has matched the donation with 2 additional copies.
Boosters received a thank you letter from Dr. Yontz. He recognized all of the work hours donated by the Boosters this past school year. That letter will be posted on the website.

Approval of Minutes:
Meeting minutes from 5/24/05 were reviewed. Three errors were noted:
1. John Krerowicz email was incorrect in the minutes. John has requested that his personal email account remain among the Boosters. It will not be available on the website.
2. Insurance section: typographical error voteat should read "vote at" and
3. The next meeting is 6/28, not 5/24.
A motion was approved to accept the minutes with these corrections.

School Reports:
Postponed until later in the meeting.

Financial Report:
Postponed until later in the meeting.

Clothing Sale:
The order is expected by June 30th.  Hopefully the clothing can be distributed by the end of that week. The clothing sale went well.

Website:
John Krerowicz is on vacation. John has requested feedback and would also like people to submit photographs for the website.

Reuther:
Andy Donalds of Boy Scout Troup 435 is planning to do his Eagle project to benefit the Boosters. He is working on a way to organize the summer band uniforms. Lisa Becker noted that she will talk with him regarding details. It was felt that metal racks would be more practical than wood due to weight and mobility.
District Report:
The district is in the process of interviewing candidates for the Lance Band director position.
Nancy Goll will be relocating to Savannah, Georgia nearer to her family. Therefore, the DOL band director job is open.
Interviews continue for the positions formerly occupied by Mr. Schripsema and Mr. Smith. An opening continues for the Washington M.S. choir director.

Summer Bands:
KL: Meeting at Reuther. Pizza party on 6/29. Approximately 105 students participating. They will play at the Festival of Arts and Flowers.
Continental: 88 band and 6 colorguard. Making great progress. Lisa Becker, head chaperone, indicated she is excited about their enthusiasm. They need to order "wide  Gateway shoes, but otherwise the uniforms are coming together. They will march in the Kenosha parade. The megaphone has been repaired. Lisa thanks previous year volunteers for leaving things in good order.
Rambler: Going well. Had good food at Band camp. Marching shoes arrived. They are playing challenging music including Ma Ma Mia and a Birdland marching tune. 127 students.
Blackwatch: Marching that week in Geneva, Illinois. Mr. Fiegles stepped down. Mr. Covelli will be assisted by Mr. Wiele and Mr. Firchow. 90 or so students.
All bands: Jeff Verzal event scheduled for July 7th. Band shell event scheduled for July 10th.

Ice Cream Social:
Scheduled for July 19th. Planning is going well. An electrician is still needed to set up lights and power supply for food. Glenn Saunders will continue as the sound person through Sound Specialties. Boosters looking at possibly changing the set up to improve traffic flow. Donations are coming in. KL families will bring brownies again. There will be toppings available. Flyers will be posted around the community. Pepsi will provide the banner for the fence at Kemper Center. Johnson Band will provide the pie tent. Raffle prizes and planning is under way.

Festival of Arts and Flowers:
Continue to need a chairperson or persons to coordinate this event. Rambler band will not be there. Dr. Yontz noted that they may be asked to put the event back on their schedule. Other entertainment includes: Double Decker Storytelling, a Barbershop quartet, and Spanish dancers. Black Watch will be back from their trip.

Insurance:
Postponed until later in the meeting

History Project:
Brent Yontz may be interested in chronicling the Kenosha Band program, but would not want to do it on a volunteer basis. A fee would need to be negotiated. Patty will follow up on this idea after the summer band season.

Next Year:
A President-Elect of the Kenosha Band Boosters is still needed.

Discussion regarding Summer Band Accounts:
Patty expressed concern about the band money left over at the end of each season. This money has always been divided with half staying in the individual summer band account and half deposited in to the Booster's general fund.
After discussion, it was decided to table this item until a meeting with Marlene Tack present.

Senior Recognition and Scholarships:
Patty noted that Boosters would like to recognize senior band students in some way at the Ice Cream Social. This would also be a public thank you to the parents who supported their student and the program.
The Boosters would like to show some recognition on an intentional level. Some suggestions included a certificate, pie coupon, and/or pictures on the website. It was decided that the Boosters will ask the senior students to fill out a profile form with their band history. They will be recognized in some way at the ICS.

Budget:
The budget for the upcoming school year will be set at the September meeting. Patty asked that all Boosters anticipate needs.

Financial report:
The financial report was reviewed. A motion carried to accept the report as written.

Insurance:
The idea of gifting the summer band uniforms to the KUSD was discussed. This will save the Boosters $1800.00 in insurance premiums annually. It was felt that the summer equipment will be adequately protected by the KUSD insurance policy.
NOTE: All of the equipment, including uniforms, stored on the Band Booster truck are not covered . Items stored "off campus  are not covered. This needs to be further researched. Kendra is the internal KUSD insurance contact person.
A motion carried to gift all of the summer band uniforms and equipment to the Kenosha Unified School District, excluding the truck and trailer.
The vote carried unanimously. The summer equipment will be inventoried at the end of summer and the transition will be made.
Patty will check with Kendra to find out if Boosters can recoup anything lost, stolen, or ruined on the truck. She will report back to Boosters.
It was recommended that the $1800.00 saved be designated toward uniforms.
A motion carried to designate the insurance premium money saved specifically for the summer uniform account.

Financial/Banking:
Approximate funds at this time were noted to be: $26,500.00 in Certificate of Deposit, $11,000.00 in Money Market Account, and $38,000.00 in Checking. The committee consisting of Bob McMahon and Marlene Tack did some research comparing area banks in the categories of fees, interest rates, and Booster support. The following was noted:
        TCF, 3.25%, no Booster support
Johnson, 3.65%, no fees, donations of cash, tent, placemats, and band/parade sponsorship
        Chase, 2.60%, no support
Educ. Cr. Union, 2.98%, no fees, no support

It was recommended that we move the checking and CD to Johnson Bank. It was noted that Patty was not involved in the above research due to her conflict of interest. A motion carried to move the checking and CD to Johnson Bank.  The CD will be moved immediately and the checking will move after the summer band program ends.

Next meeting September 27, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.
The meeting adjourned.
